Bespoke bathroom mirrors

A bathroom mirror should be planned around the basin, wall surface, room lighting and likely moisture exposure. The visible dimensions and edge finish are only part of the brief; mounting, backing and service access also need to be considered.

LED lighting, illuminated borders and demister pads are separate requested features. Agree their dimensions, controls, electrical provision and suitability for the intended bathroom location with the supplier and installer. Do not assume that an ordinary cut-to-size mirror includes electrical equipment.

A made-to-measure mirror can be planned around a wall, recess, wardrobe, furniture panel or bathroom layout. The finished size, mounting method and visible edge detail work together. Large mirrors also need handling and installation arrangements suited to their weight and location.

Silvered mirror, tinted mirror and decorative edge finishes create different visual effects. Polished edges give a simple perimeter; a bevel introduces an angled decorative border. Ask about samples where reflection, colour or matching several panels matters.

Humidity, splash exposure, compatible adhesive and any safety-backing requirement should be discussed before manufacture. Holes, cut-outs and lighting details need an agreed drawing. A mirror is not automatically suitable for every wet or impact-prone location simply because it is described as a bathroom mirror.

A mirror that fits your space for your project

Common enquiry briefs include bathroom, bedroom or hallway, gym or studio, commercial interior. Describe the intended use and the supporting construction so the supplier can assess the complete specification. Different applications can need different glass processing, fixings and installation details.

Fixings come first

Holes, clips and adhesive each affect fabrication and installation. Tell the supplier how the mirror will be held.

Protect the backing

Moisture and incompatible products can damage the reflective backing; flag the installation environment.

What to include in a made-to-measure quote

Compare quotes using the same dimensions, quantities, finish, glass construction and installation scope. If you have a drawing or an existing specification, include its reference and identify which details still need advice.

  • Mirror glass thickness: Confirm the fixing system and suitability for the panel size.
  • Mirror appearance: Ask for a sample if a tint needs to match an existing mirror.
  • Exposed edges: Tell the supplier which edges remain visible after installation.
  • Mirror mounting and backing request: Use mirror-compatible adhesives; backing films and adhesives need compatibility checks.

Cut-to-size dimensions, edges and fabrication

Measure the finished glass only when the fitting allowances and support details are known. Otherwise identify the opening or existing panel you measured and request a survey. Give each different size its own basket line, with its quantity and drawing reference.

Holes, cut-outs, shaped edges and interfaces with hardware should be settled before manufacture. The finished glass construction and any coatings must suit the intended environment. A screen preview or concept photograph cannot replace a sample, survey or product-specific installation drawing.

Supplier checks before manufacture

  • Confirm backing and adhesive compatibility and ventilation behind the mirror.
  • High-humidity or specialist environments may need a corrosion-resistant product.

Requesting comparable glass quotes

Save the choices you know and ask for help with the rest. The quote basket records a specification request rather than placing a manufacturing order. A firm quote needs an agreed final build, dimensions, delivery arrangements and any installation or design work.

When comparing proposals, check that glass-only supply and supply with fitting cover the same scope. Ask who provides measurement, drawings, supports, compatible hardware, lifting access and finishing work. Keep the final approved specification with the order.

FAQs

Cut-to-size mirror questions

What size should a bathroom mirror be?

A common rule is mirror width matching or slightly under the basin unit, hung so its centre sits roughly at eye level (about 1.5–1.6m from the floor). Over-large wall-to-wall mirrors are cut to your exact wall dimensions.

Are LED bathroom mirrors worth it?

LED perimeter or back-lit mirrors give even, shadow-free light for shaving and make-up — much better than an overhead light. On bespoke glass, LED modules are fitted by the supplier around or behind the mirror panel.

What is a demister pad?

A thin heating pad fixed behind the mirror that clears condensation after showers. It wires into the same supply as the bathroom light and is quoted by your supplier alongside the mirror glass.

Is bathroom mirror glass different?

Standard silvered float mirror copes with normal bathroom humidity. In direct splash zones ask for safety-backed mirror; suppliers price the backing film as an extra.

LED lighting or demister pads? Include these in your enquiry — suppliers quote the fittings separately from the mirror glass.
