Mirror glass cut to size

A made-to-measure mirror can be planned around a wall, recess, wardrobe, furniture panel or bathroom layout. The finished size, mounting method and visible edge detail work together. Large mirrors also need handling and installation arrangements suited to their weight and location.

Silvered mirror, tinted mirror and decorative edge finishes create different visual effects. Polished edges give a simple perimeter; a bevel introduces an angled decorative border. Ask about samples where reflection, colour or matching several panels matters.

Humidity, splash exposure, compatible adhesive and any safety-backing requirement should be discussed before manufacture. Holes, cut-outs and lighting details need an agreed drawing. A mirror is not automatically suitable for every wet or impact-prone location simply because it is described as a bathroom mirror.

A mirror that fits your space for your project

Common enquiry briefs include bathroom, bedroom or hallway, gym or studio, commercial interior. Describe the intended use and the supporting construction so the supplier can assess the complete specification. Different applications can need different glass processing, fixings and installation details.

Fixings come first

Holes, clips and adhesive each affect fabrication and installation. Tell the supplier how the mirror will be held.

Protect the backing

Moisture and incompatible products can damage the reflective backing; flag the installation environment.

What to include in a made-to-measure quote

Compare quotes using the same dimensions, quantities, finish, glass construction and installation scope. If you have a drawing or an existing specification, include its reference and identify which details still need advice.

  • Mirror glass thickness: Confirm the fixing system and suitability for the panel size.
  • Mirror appearance: Ask for a sample if a tint needs to match an existing mirror.
  • Exposed edges: Tell the supplier which edges remain visible after installation.
  • Mirror mounting and backing request: Use mirror-compatible adhesives; backing films and adhesives need compatibility checks.

Cut-to-size dimensions, edges and fabrication

Measure the finished glass only when the fitting allowances and support details are known. Otherwise identify the opening or existing panel you measured and request a survey. Give each different size its own basket line, with its quantity and drawing reference.

Holes, cut-outs, shaped edges and interfaces with hardware should be settled before manufacture. The finished glass construction and any coatings must suit the intended environment. A screen preview or concept photograph cannot replace a sample, survey or product-specific installation drawing.

Supplier checks before manufacture

  • Confirm backing and adhesive compatibility and ventilation behind the mirror.
  • High-humidity or specialist environments may need a corrosion-resistant product.

Requesting comparable glass quotes

Save the choices you know and ask for help with the rest. The quote basket records a specification request rather than placing a manufacturing order. A firm quote needs an agreed final build, dimensions, delivery arrangements and any installation or design work.

When comparing proposals, check that glass-only supply and supply with fitting cover the same scope. Ask who provides measurement, drawings, supports, compatible hardware, lifting access and finishing work. Keep the final approved specification with the order.

FAQs

Cut-to-size mirror questions

What thickness mirror should I choose?

4mm suits smaller wall mirrors and wardrobe inserts; 6mm gives a flatter, truer reflection on larger walls and is the usual choice above roughly 900mm wide.

Which edge finish is best?

Polished edges are smooth and safe to handle — the standard choice. Bevelled edges add a decorative angled border that catches the light on feature mirrors.

Is cut-to-size mirror safe in a bathroom?

Standard silvered mirror copes with general bathroom humidity when vertically mounted. For splash zones and gyms ask your supplier about safety-backed mirror film (quoted as an extra).

Can I fix the mirror myself?

Small and medium mirrors are commonly fixed with adhesive pads plus mechanical clips or brackets. Large panels are best professionally fixed — your supplier can quote installation.

Gym or studio wall? Ask for shatterproof safety-backed mirror in your notes — see our bathroom-mirror page for LED and demister options.

Bathroom mirror instead?

LED strips, demister pads and shaped feature mirrors start a conversation with suppliers rather than a fixed price list.
